This law was made by Chinese leader Deng Xiaopng in 1979. It limits couples to have only one child. Citizens that are living in rural areasare not applied to this law. This rule has reduced the population growth over the years. Also, it has brought down the birth rate down. In 1987, the birth rate went up to 23.33. But in 1998, it went down to 16.03.
Recent Effects of the One Child Policy
Because of this law, a lot of people have no siblings. If a couple has no siblings, they can have a second child. During these years, China has provided more education and more technology. The total fertility rate right now in China is 1.7. In Guangxi, they are forcing women to have abortions if they're gonna have a second child.
The Future of China's One Child Law
This law will keep being applied to citizens of China in the future. There are rumors that the law will become less strictto permit a second child. The population will decrease in later years because of that. In about 2050, it will be less than a billion.
